The ScrapIt window:
The icons in the tool bar along the top of the window have the following functions (from left to right):
1. About/help icon -
Brings up the About window ╤ from here you
can print the registration form or bring up
the on-line help.
2. Name List -
If this icon is selected, the name list view of
all scrap items will be displayed.
3. Thumbnail List -
If this icon is selected, the thumbnail list
view of all scrap items will be displayed.
4. No List -
If this icon is selected, no list is displayed
(there is no ╥Sort╙ available in this view; items
will be displayed in their natural order).
5. Find -
Search for text in any scrap item (starting
from the first item).
6. Find Again -
Search for next occurrence of the last text
searched for.
7. Import Menu -
This is a pop-up menu of all Import options.
8. Export -
If the current scrap item is of type TEXT, snd
or PICT, you can export to a file with this tool.
9. Text Item Menu -
This is a pop-up menu of all Text Item options.
- Add New Text Item
This option allows you to add a new blank
TEXT item to the scrap file (if the Allow
Text Edit option is checked in the preferences
dialog).
- Revert Text Item╔
If you have edited a Text Item, you can revert
to the original version with this option.
- Font, Style and Color submenus
When editing a Text Item, use these menus to
change the font, style and color of the current
text selection.
9. Print Menu -
This is a pop-up menu of all print options.
10. Preferences -
Set preferences here such as Sorting options
and the font and size used when displaying
TEXT items that are not styled text. You can
also set an option to enable/disable text editing.
NOTE: If the check box ╥Show Other Scrap Files╙
is checked, the Scrap Files Menu will contain any
names of system files. You will also see any of
these type of files when you select the ╥Open Scrap
File╙ option from the ScrapIt menu. The only
reason to check this option is if you have files
created by SmartScrap or Apple's old Scrapbook
with a name different than ╥Scrapbook File╙.
If you don't have these file types, leave the option
un-checked.
11. Scrap Files Menu -
This is a pop-up menu of all Scrap Files that
are stored in the System Folder. You can open
other scrap files that are in the System Folder
or the ScrapIt Folder (System 7 only ╤ which
ScrapIt will create if it doesn╒t find the folder)
by selecting an item from this menu rather
than choosing the ╘Open╒ command from the
╘ScrapIt╒ menu.
12. Current and Total Items -
This displays the current item number and the
total items in the file, e.g. ╥1 / 5╙ means there
are 5 items in the open scrap file and you are
viewing item #1.
13. Scrap Type Menu -
This displays the current scrap type, e.g.
╘PICT╒ = a picture, ╘TEXT╒ = any text,
╘snd╒ = a sound, and there can be many more
depending on what application you copied data
from. You can view the different file types of any
scrap item by choosing from this pop-up menu.
14. Scrap Item Size -
This will show the total size of the current
scrap item.
If you are in a list mode (the list icon or thumbnail icon is selected), the list will be on the left side of the window. The current item will be displayed in the right side of the window (or the whole window, if not in list mode). The scroll bar on the bottom can be used to move to different scrap items in the file.

If this option is checked, if the picture is too big
to display, it will be shrunk to display the entire
picture, otherwise the picture will be centered.

Closes the window and quits from ScrapIt Pro
Moving to different scrap items:
You can move to different scrap items (if there is more than one item in the file) by:
Ñ Using the scroll bar at the bottom of the window.
Ñ Clicking on a name (or thumbnail icon) in the list
on the left side of the window, if the list view is on.
Ñ Using the arrow keys.
Ñ Searching for characters in a TEXT item.
Ñ Typing the first characters of the item╒s name
if in List or Thumbnail mode and ╥sorting by
name╙ is selected in the preferences dialog.
Adding an item to the scrap file:
If there is any data on the clipboard, you can place it into the scrap file by selecting ╥Paste╙ from the Edit menu. The item will be placed in the current position in the scrap file. You can also add items by importing them.
You can also add a new blank Text Item by using the Text Item Menu.
Removing an item from the scrap file:
If you no longer want a certain scrap item in the scrap file, you can remove it by selecting ╥Cut╙ or ╥Clear╙ from the edit menu (unless a portion of a PICTure or TEXT is selected).
WARNING: Clearing an item cannot be undone!
Copying portions of text:
When the current scrap item is of the type ╥TEXT╙, portions of the text can be copied to the clipboard. You select portions of text as you normally would with any word or text processor. You cannot clear or cut portions of text (unless you have allowed text edit from the Preferences dialog), it can only be copied while any text is selected.
Copying portions of a picture:
When the current scrap item is of type ╥PICT╙, portions of the picture can be copied to the clipboard. You select portions of a picture as you normally would with a selection rectangle in a graphic type program (MacPaint, MacDraw, etc...). Click on any part of the PICTure and drag a rectangle over the area you wish to copy, then release the mouse button. You cannot clear or cut portions of a PICTure, it can only be copied while any portion of the PICTure is selected.
NOTE: You can unselect any selected portion of a PICTure by moving to another scrap item or by hitting the Command-U (Unselect) keys.
What file does ScrapIt Pro open upon starting?
System 6 - Upon starting, ScrapIt Pro will look for a file in the System Folder or in the root directory named ╥ScrapIt Pro File╙. If it cannot find one, it looks for a ╥ScrapIt ][ File╙ in the System Folder or root directory; if it is not found it will look for a file named ╥Scrapbook File╙ (the name Apple╒s Scrapbook DA uses).
System 7 - The last file you had open will be re-opened. If it can╒t find that file, it will look for a file named ╥ScrapIt Pro File╙, ╥ScrapIt ][ File╙ or ╥Scrapbook File╙ in the ScrapIt Folder or the System Folder.
Opening and creating scrap files:
A scrap file which is in the System Folder or the ScrapIt Folder within the System Folder, (ScrapIt Folder in System 7 only), can be opened by simply choosing the name from the ╥Files╙ pop-up menu! The menu separates files from the System Folder (on the top portion of the menu) and the ScrapIt Folder items (on the bottom).
You can also use the ╥Open Scrap File...╙ command in the menu to open a scrap file created by ScrapIt Pro or any of Apple╒s ╥Scrapbook File╙ files. You can create a new scrap file by choosing the ╥New Scrap File...╙ menu item from the ScrapIt Pro menu. When creating new files, it╒s best to place them in the System Folder (or the ScrapIt Folder with System 7).
Importing files:
You can import files by selecting an option from the sub-menu of the ╥Import╙ option from the ScrapIt Pro menu or from the pop-up menu in the main window.
Ñ A TEXT file can be imported into the current scrap items position by selecting ╥Import TEXT file...╙ from the ScrapIt menu. (Note: the TEXT file must be 32,000 characters or less).
Ñ Import a MacPaint or PICT file by using the appropriate menu items.
Ñ Import a ╥PICT╙ resource from any application or any file (hold down the option key when choosing ╥Import snd Resource...╙ to get a list of all files. If there is more than one ╥snd╙ resource in the file, they will all be displayed in a list so you may choose which one to import.
Ñ Import a ╥snd╙ resource from a ╥snd╙ file created by ScrapIt Pro or any file; hold down the option key when choosing ╥Import snd Resource...╙ to get a list of all files. If there is more than one ╥snd╙ resource in the file, they will all be displayed in a list so you may choose which one to import.
Ñ Import a QuickTime¬ Movie by using the appropriate menu item.
Ñ Select multiple files (PICT, TEXT or Sound files) by selecting the ╥Import Selected Files╙ option from the Import menu. You can then select many files (from any folder) by double clicking the filename, or selecting a file name and clicking the ╥Add╙ button. The files you select will be added to the list on the bottom of the window. You can select any of these files and remove it from the list if you make a mistake. After you select all the files you want to import, click the ╥Import╙ button to begin, or click ╥Cancel╙ to cancel the import.
Playing Sounds:
You can play a sound by either clicking on the sound icon in the main window or by selecting the ╥Play Sound╙ option from the ScrapIt Pro menu. You can stop a sound during play by hitting the Command .(period) keys at the same time.
QuickTime¬ Movies (Copying, Pasting & Playing):
Ñ Copying & Pasting
You can copy and paste QuickTime¬ movies to and from the current scrap file by using the standard ╥Copy╙ and ╥Paste╙ options of the ╥Edit╙ menu.
Ñ Playing movies
You can now play a QuickTime¬ movie that is in the current scrap file by selecting the ╥Play Movie╙ option from the ScrapIt Pro menu or by clicking the movie icon if the current resource type is of type ╥moov╙ (in the upper right Popup menu). You can also play any QuickTime¬ movie file not in the Scrap File by selecting the ╥Play QuickTime¬ Movie File...╙ option of the Import menu (a hierarchical menu in the ScrapIt menu)!!!
Ñ Stopping a movie
Click the mouse or hit any key while a movie is playing to stop it.
NOTE: Movies aren╒t actually stored in the scrap file, but a reference to the movie is, so the actual movie must remain on the disk to use it.
Exporting files:
Ñ A TEXT file can be created if the current scrap item is of type TEXT.
Ñ A PICT file can be created if the current scrap item is of type PICT.
Ñ A Sound file can be created if the current scrap item is of type ╥snd╙.
Printing PICT or TEXT items:
If the current scrap item is of type PICT or TEXT, it can be printed. Just select the ╥Print Item╔╙ menu item from the print menu to print!
Printing a catalog of all items in a scrap file:
If you are displaying a name list, you can print the entire name list (including other information about each scrap item) by selecting the ╥Print List╙ item from the Print menu.
If you are displaying a thumbnail list, you can print the entire thumbnail list by selecting the ╥Print Thumbnail List╙ item from the Print menu.
Searching:
You can search through any text item or through all scrap item names! You can define which way to search by clicking the appropriate radio button in the Find Dialog. When searching through scrap item names, the check box ╥Search All╙ is meaningless.
If the ╥Search Text╙ radio button is hilighted in the Find Dialog you can search for any occurrence of text in any TEXT item by choosing ╥Find...╙ from the ScrapIt Pro menu. You can search through only the current TEXT item or you can globally search all the TEXT items in the scrap file by checking the appropriate check boxes. The check boxes are:
1. Ignore case = Checked, the search will not
be case sensitive
2. Wrap around = Checked, the search will
continue at the beginning
of the text if a match is
not found after reaching
the end... (if the Search All
check box is checked, the
search will wrap to the
first scrap item upon
not finding a match in the
last TEXT item of the file.
3. Search all = Checked, the search will
check all TEXT scrap items
Editing text:
To edit text you must have the ╥Allow Text Edit╙ option checked in the preferences dialog. If the option is checked, you can select text with the mouse and edit it in the standard way (Cut, Copy, Clear, Paste or by typing). After moving to another Text Item, you must click in the text to start editing.
Use the Font and Style submenus of the Text Item Menu to change the font, style and color characteristics of text.
NOTE: If the current Text Item is larger than 32000 characters, it cannot be edited. If the Text Item cannot be edited, there will be a Ñ character after the word ╥TEXT╙ in the Scrap Type menu.
Drag & Drop:
ScrapIt Pro now supports Drag & Drop for System 7.1 Pro (with the Drag Manager Extension) and System 7.5 users.
Ñ Dragging items from ScrapIt Pro:
- Selected Text (only if you allow text edit):
Just click on the selected text and drag it to another
location within the same text or to another
application's window.
- Selected Picture portion:
Just hold down the Option key, click on the portion
of the picture that is selected and drag it to another
application's window or to the Finder.
- Dragging any scrap item:
Hold down the Option key and click within the
current item display area and drag.
Ñ Dragging items to ScrapIt Pro:
- Dragging text item(s) to ScrapIt Pro:
If you are currently editing text within ScrapIt Pro
and the file(s) you drag onto the ScrapIt window are
all Text type files or clippings, the text from the
items will be inserted where you drop them in the
text. The only reason they wouldn't be placed this
way is if they would all created a text item that was
too large, if this is the case, each dragged file will
be added as a scrap item separately.
- Dragging other item(s) to ScrapIt Pro:
Any clippings (created by dragging items from ScrapIt
Pro or dragging items from other applications) can be
dragged to ScrapIt Pro. Many other standard files can
be dragged to ScrapIt Pro such as Text files, System 7
sound files, MacPaint files, QuickTime¬ movies and
PICT files.
Ñ REASONS WHY DRAGGED FILES WOULD NOT BE ACCEPTED: The file(s) will not be added to the scrap file if the count of files being dragged plus the amount of items already in the scrap file would exceed the scrap files limit (255 for older Scrap files and 1000 items for any files created with ScrapIt Pro).
Ñ A beep will sound if not all dragged items can be placed in the scrap file.
Specifications:
Maximum scrap items in an old scrap file = 255.
Maximum scrap items in a new ScrapIt Pro file = 1000.

Try to get 4 or more in a row down, across, diagonally or in a block... But that╒s not all! Random things happen during play to either help or hinder your progress, such as a falling weight, a bomb and other strange things! Try it! ($10)
SideMinder! - SideMinder! is a challenging game played against the computer. Your mission is to place 3D game pieces on the board, matching as many sides as you can. The more sides you match, the higher the score! Many different options are available, such as various playing boards, tournament mode, rotating pieces, number of colors (or patterns for B&W), and level of difficulty! Try it, you won╒t be disappointed! (1.02 fixes a Scoring bug and adds new game boards!) I take no responsibility for time or sleep lost due to the habit forming effects of this game! ($10)
PRODUCTIVITY:
TakeABreak (1.0) - This control panel will remind you to take a break from the computer once in a while... You can have it remind you after a selected time period (every 30 minutes, every 2 hours, whatever you choose) by playing any installed Sound, showing a window, and/or playing a QuickTime¬ movie! This is a ╥must have╙ utility if you spend over 20 minutes at a time on the computer. ($5)
Font DA (1.01) - NEW! Ever wondered how to type a certain character from a certain font that you need? Well, wonder no more with this handy utility! Much better than KeyCaps DA!
